| 92 members and guests attended the evening in honour of Alan Chalmers. It was a great success and we were all very proud to be able to share this special event with Alan. The opening speech was given by Angela Meier-Jones, who thanked Alan for all he has done for the British and Swiss community, then together with Felix Rudolf von Rohr she presented Alan with a lithography of Basel. Dr. Carlo Conti, the head of the Basle government followed with his speech on behalf of the Government for Basel town and Basel land, in which he praised the work done by Alan and how he will be missed. It was a great honour for Alan that Dr. Conti himself had come to the evening and gave such an interesting speech. The British Ambassador Sarah GIllett and Tim Whiteman from the BSCC Basle also gave speeches in which they thanked Alan. Alan Chalmers was Honorary Consul from 2000 to 2011 and thanks to all the work that he has put in over the years it has had a great effect in strengthening the relations between the UK and Switzerland, especially as Basle is very important for the chemical industries and banks. The evening was held in the beautifully historical room at the top of the restaurant Safran Zunft in Basel. On behalf of Alan I would like to thank all of the members and guests who came from far and wide not only from the North west region but also from Geneva, Zürich, and Berne. Here are the Photos:
