| What better location could there be for launching a book about the Valais than in the grounds of the famous Giannada Museum in Martigny? Thanks to the Museum’s founder, Léonard Giannada, the new Romandie East Chairman, author and aviation medicine expert, Farrol Kahn, was able to host a large gathering of people on 1 September for the launch of his latest book entitled Valais – an undiscovered Swiss canton. He set out to discover the Valais step by step from the source of the Rhone to Lake Léman. Well illustrated and packed full of useful information, it will be a useful handbook for both British residents and tourists.
VIPs at the launch included Mr Giannada as well as the President of the Grand Conseil of the Canton and his Deputy, To add colour to the occasion, there were Valaisans wearing folk costumes which varied greatly in colour and design. Valaisan wine was liberally dispensed along with tasty canapés and other delicacies. In a graceful speech, Mr Giannada referred to British links with the Valais and Queen Victoria’s visit when with only the help of an Alpenstock and Brown’s strong arm, she got down from her carriage to walk on a glacier. As a token of appreciation for promoting the Valais through the book, two ladies in traditional costume presented Farrol Kahn with wine and honey. |
