Fourteen brave souls took time off from watching the World Cup on Friday, 18 June, to enjoy a very copious aperitif in the beautiful setting of the Hotel Schiff am See in Murten (tho’ some rushed off after the Apero to get back in time to watch England draw!). The weather was a little better than the previous evening in Berne, but not the sunny, breezy evening that would have done justice to the surroundings! Nigel Coombs, the Regional Chairman, proposed the Loyal Toast to the Queen and a Toast to the (female) President of the Swiss Confederation, mentioning in passing that as the new British Ambassador to Switzerland is also female, this is definitely a feminist year. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
