Many people will have heard of the world-famous garden created by the late Sir Peter Smithers at Vico Morcote. The new owners, Mr & Mrs de Winter, have graciously offered to receive BRA members for a tour of the garden and in particular, the magnolias. Transport will be arranged and it is essential that you confirm your participation
The garden was created in a disused vineyard and covers a little more than two acres in which grow some 10,000 plants, none of them duplicates. Included are 150 types of magnolias, as well as Japanese and deciduous azaleas, rhododendrons, peonies, acers, gardenias, wisterias, nerines and iris. So spectacular is the garden that in 2001 it was awarded the prestigious Schulthess Prize, an award given annually for being the best garden in Switzerland and it is listed as one the 500 great gardens of the world.
